Deep-Dive Introduction to Linocut Printmaking. Saturday August 30th & Sept 6th (10am-4pm, with lunch break). All materials included.
Join me for a small-group workshop where I will walk you through the basics of relief printmaking using linocut: Design, tool safety and polishing, transfer, how to create different textures and marks with the gouges, registering the print, inking, hand printing, editorializing, and even how to clean up the inks in a safe manner.
I will demonstrate at each step of the way and I keep the groups small so that I can give you all the attention you need/want. No previous experience in printmaking needed!
I provide all materials, so you do not have to bring anything! If you want, you can bring a sketched idea or pictures that we can then work with to make it printmaking ready (we will be working on a small-sized block, think 6"x 8) . But you can also wait and draw your block with me during the workshop. I will share examples of different artists, tips and techniques to come up with a beautiful image to print, and I will also have some practice designs if you want to skip the drawing part altogether.
Other important details:
FOOD & DRINKS: There will be coffee, tea, and some snacks available. I do not provide lunch but you are welcome to bring your own (we have a nice outdoor area that you are welcome to use). There are also plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby.
ACCOMMODATIONS AND QUESTIONS: If you have any questions or concerns about the materials, accommodations, or the workshop in general, feel free to contact me at irenka@thewonderstruckprintmaker.com. I am happy to answer!
WHAT WILL YOU LEAVE WITH? I will provide the tools and materials to work with during the workshop. You will take home: your own carved linocut block, your practice block with a cheat sheet of different marks in linoleum, your own prints*, a handout with recommended materials and other tips, and a new set of skills. *We will be using driers to speed up the drying process but if you are not able to take your prints home wet, you are welcome to pick them up at an arranged time later on.
WHERE? Berkeley CA, 15 minutes walking from a BART station and with plenty of free parking around. I will send you the details upon booking.
CANCELLATION POLICY: If you need to cancel, please let me know via email at irenka@thewonderstruckprintmaker.comat least 72 hours before the workshop and I will refund the cost minus the Paypal fee I was charged for the transactions. Late cancellations or no-shows won’t receive refunds, as I will be losing the ability to earn my keep that day.
